TRIPS WITH CAR & DRIVER
FROM 2 DAYS UP TO A FEW WEEKS
Flores is more than Komodo National Park.
Before the tsunami of 1992 destroyed a big part of the north coast, Flores was in particular famous for diving near the islands north east of Maumere. After a decade of rebuilding the coral grew
back but in the meantime Komodo National Park became more and more famous, in particular since Sail Komodo in 2014 and unfortunately tourist didn't came back to Maumere.
The second attraction was Kelimutu and the every changing colours of the lakes (three times in May and June 2024, from blue to black, to brown and blue
again).
In fact Flores has a lot of variation to offer: volcanos, beaches, traditional villages and hikes. But I am pretty sure most of the hidden gems are not yet discovered.
However tourist often don't have or take the time for a longer visit. And, yes I understand since there are so many beautiful and interesting places allover the country.
But, I still think Flores is unique. It is by far the greenest island in the area, much greener than Sumbawa or Timor for example. Also very mountainous and this means slow transportation.
Some ideas on and off the beaten track:
Larantuka > snorkling, diving, history, Adonara, Solor and of course Semana Santa
Maumere > snorkling, diving, tsunami monument, weavingvillages, climbing Egon
North coast Maumere-Maurole-Ende> hike Bukit Liaga,
amazing views
Moni > Kelimutu, hikes, Nggela village
Ende> Nanganese beach, Pancasila monument, Blue stone beach, Puncak
Ndona
Bajawa > traditional villages, hikes, Inerie volcano, a lot of coffee and bamboo
Riung> Marine Park 17 islands, Watu Mitong
Ruteng> spiderweb ricefields, hobbit cave, forest, waterfalls
Wae Rebo> Mules island, traditional village, Nangalili beach
Labuan Bajo> komodo dragons, diving, amazing islands, waterfalls
In the last couple of months I made more than 70 routes - yes that
was a lot of work 😁- from 2 days up to 20 days, one way trips and roundtrips from Labuan Bajo. Plus a few specials for mountains & hikes, water (beaches,
snorkling, lakes, diving etc) and traditional villages.
Please check them in the submenu.
I am still working on building your own trip although also possible with the relevant programs and the best POI's for what it's worth. Be patient.
For the curious who are wondering who is the guy on the photo above.
The young man is Uni, a dedicated guide from Bajawa who takes guest to the summit of the Inerie volcano or to the traditional villages.
I took the pic in April 2023 on the brand new road from Labuan Bajo to Golomori. However, most of the
time the road is empty. So this pose was easy.
